General Information

An episodic adventure in science, intrigue, and espionage, Jonny Quest premiered in September 1964 and dramatized the worldwide exploits of a quartet of life-life characters, searching for answers ot unexplained mysteries. It was the only animated program to be seen on each of the three major networks. The series made animation history using an illustrative, rather than cartoon art to depict more life-like characters.

Jonny Quest posts a very strong Q-score of 31 among boys and girls 6-11, and is also strong among adult men 18-49. (Average Q-scores are in the 20-23 range).
65 new half-hour episodes, called The New Adventures of Jonny Quest, are in development by Hanna-Barbera, scheduled to begin airing in Fall 1995. They will feature an older Jonny (13 years) in a mystery/adventure series.
A live-action film based on The Adventures of Jonny Quest is in development from Turner Pictures. lauren Shuler-Donner (Mr. Mom, St. Elmo's Fire, Pretty in Pink), Richard Donner (Superman, lethal Weapon 2 and 3 and Maverick), and Jane Rosenthall will produce. Donner/Shuler-Donner Productions recently produced the Academy Award nominated Dave and the critically acclaimed box office hit Free Willy.
Jonny's Global Conquest, an all-new TNT two hour animated movie will air in the 4th quarter of 1994. The special follows another all-new animated special, Jonny's Golden Quest, which aired on USA Network in spring 1993. It was one of the highest rated original movies receiving a 2.2 Nielsen rating -- 22% higher than average for the time period.
Jonny Quest airs on the Cartoon Network on Saturday 10:30 pm and on Sunday at 12:30 pm. It is also on TBS Saturday mornings at 7:35 am.
Turner Home Entertainment and Hanna-Barbera, Inc. are dedicating major marketing efforts to Jonny Quest due tot he continuous devotion he has experienced, particularly with male adults 18-49 and boys 9-11.
Two new style guides are in production, one features classic Jonny Quest, and the other is dedicated to The New Adventures of Jonny Quest.
