MONTE CARLO -- In a package covering more than 40 films, Turner International Inc. struck with Russia its largest single distribution deal this week at the Monte Carlo Television Festival and Market. Mike Byrd, Turner Internationals senior vp international television distribution, said on Tuesday that the deal was closed with Russian TV channel ORT.
It includes such titles as Seven, Mortal Kombat and Dolores Claiborne from Turner feature film production stables Turner Pictures, Castle Rock and New Line. It also covers Turner Original Prods. made-for-TV movies, back catalog titles such as Gigi and 2001: A Space Odyssey and Hanna-Barberas new action-adventure animated series Jonny Quest (65 half-hour episodes). Were very excited about this new relationship with ORT, said Byrd. It is proof of the ever-exploding Russian TV market, which we are very proud to be a part of. Byrd said Turner International has done many deals with ORT, but this is by far the largest one. Turner International sales executive Lesley who orchestrated the agreement, said she was already in discussions with the Russian broadcaster regarding another package deal. The festival and market concludes Thursday.
