CARTOONING

Fans of the action cartoon Jonny Quest get a treat beginning today when The Real Adventures of Jonny Quest premieres. The half-hour daily show has been updated from its '60s origins (for one thing, the Quest team now includes a girl) and has made some improvements in the animation. It's true to the violent original, however, with an opening episode full of explosions, murder and mayhem. Recommended only to die-hard adult fans, and even they will wonder how characters this smart can do some incredibly dumb things.

Hanna-Barbera, the studio making Jonny Quest, is now part of the Turner TV empire, which should explain why the series will run on three Turner channels: 8 a.m. on TNT, 4:35 p.m. on WTBS, and 8 p.m. on the Cartoon Network.
